Versatile carry duffel/travel bag with lots of organization options.

My Review

The Aeronaut 30 is a duffel-esque bag made by Tom Bihn. It’s the little brother of the popular Aeronaut 45.

The bag has one large main compartment with two side pockets. The main compartment boasts two tie-down straps for holding down whatever it is you decide to put in it.

One of the most-loved features of this bag is the number of ways you can carry it. You can use a shoulder strap, the carry handle, or the hideaway backpack straps – when you’re not using it as a backpack, you can tuck those straps away in a convenient little pocket. (FWIW, the straps do not add any noticeable bulk or weight, at least not from my view.)

What I Like 👍
  • Cavernous middle compartment that can be filled normally OR with Tom Bihn's optional organization.
  • End pockets can fit shoes, accessories, or awesome accessories like the Laundry Sack.
  • Versatile in terms of carry options - my favorites are the backpack straps and the Absolute Shoulder Strap.
  • Forgiving if you overfill it.
What I Don't Like 👎
  • Honestly, not much NOT to like. It looks good and carries awesome.
Use This If
  • You want a versatile duffel bag that can be filled and overfilled at your whim.
  • You want to be able to carry it three different ways.
  • You want the option of being organized - or not. Either way, the Aeronaut series is forgiving and flexible.

5’0 tall female and this is my travel bag

I have not used a suitcase since purchasing this bag. I do use packing cubes and I can do 4-5 days. I have learned what I need and don’t need when packing. Love the room and comfort of carrying it.

Minimalist Overachiever

The A30 shines as a minimalist bag for me, especially for warm weather pleasure travel. I put one pair of shoes in an end compartment and a spiff kit in the other. The center compartment is for clothes. Obviously, how much clothing you get in depends on size and materials. I find the storage best for casual wear. My suit jackets and dress shirts don’t like Aeronauts, so I take a garment bag on a business trip. I also don’t carry paper, nor electronics in an A-30. Halcyon is great for this bag

The bag

The Aeronaut 30 excels as the type of bag you can fit anywhere. In a bag rack, under an airplane seat, stacked in the back of a car, etc. The many handles make it easy to push and pull in any direction. The organization is outstanding, perfect for a pair of shoes on one end, a week's worth of clothes in the main compartment, and toiletries on the other end. I would recommend pairing with a smaller bag like the Pilot for travel, due to not having easy access or dedicated laptop compartments.

Have A30, Will Ttavel

I bought an A30 for a trip to Tanzania (along with a co-pilot). It worked great. I used it as a backpack. It fits easily in airplane overhead bins. I can slide it in the overhead bin upright, taking up little room. It is now my go-to bag for most trips. There are color options that ought to satisfy everyone.

Perfect minimal/one-bag travel companion!

Have used as an only bag on several trips and I cannot complain! It also works great as a secondary bag (especially when paired with an S25). Ample expandable storage, plenty of space for a weeks worth of clothes, toiletries, travel coffee setup, various electronics and, with some maneuvering, a daylight backpack (or briefcase) holding other stuff. The various modes let's it wear many hats and makes carrying in different contexts a breeze. 10/10, one of the best TB bags.

A30 - Ride or Die

Love my A30! It's been described as having Tardis-like capabilities and it truly does. I packed everything that I had taken for a 2 week trip to Japan in an A45 into my A30 and it contained everything with room to spare (and being 5'2", the smaller bag is definitely more comfortable to wear/lift). I don't know what kind of Mary Poppins magic that Tom Bihn designed into the bag, but the A30 has it in spades. Can't wait to haul it all over the world.

Great minimal travel bag

Great bag for personal travel - I can live out of this for about a week. The only thing I'd improve is a dedicated laptop slot and more padding in the backpack straps

Small Bag. Holds a TON

This was my first travel bag purchase from Tom Bihn. Initial impression: this bag looks small! However, it's hard to believe how much this bag holds when packed correctly (ie using cubes, stuff sacks, and a little thought). I plan on using it for a winter trip to north central Europe (ie cold!) so I did a test pack: it held everything I needed for a 10 day trip including sweater and winter coat! Really incredible. Even fully loaded, it was still very comfortable in backpack mode. Great Bag!

Perfect bag for shorter trips

My main issue with the Aeronaut bags is the style. They aren't the best looking bags, but they make up for that with function and durability. You can fit a surprising amount in each of these bags. The compartments provide organization but not TOO much, as I found with the Cotopaxi bags.

Great for minimal travel!

I went to Europe for a month long trip and used the Aeronaut as my only travel bag (besides my purse.) I found at the end of the trip that it holds 2 pairs of shoes, several outfits, a makeup case, toiletries, and souvenirs very well.
